Another Season in the Word
It is summer. It is the time for picnics and baseball and evening softball games. It is VBS and youth camp and family vacations. It is lemonade and iced tea and watermelon. It is tomatoes and zucchini and blueberries. It is one-day trips to 100 different places. It is the Fourth of July and fireworks.
It is cookouts. There are dreams of fall football. There are weddings.
It is empty school rooms and goodbye after graduation and college plans. Many people have endured long winters and now hope for an equally lengthy summer.
People need Christ in all seasons. They need to understand that God’s grace is available for living life here on earth.
Whatever the season, it is time to read and understand God’s Word. Many people feel as though they cannot understand the things in the Bible. It is more than historical accounts and helpful sayings and stories. It is God’s Word to man. That sounds important. The God of the universe provides answers for us.
As a young man, I often heard about the “summer slump” at church. We were told that with vacations, and other things to do, people did not attend church as much during the summer months. It might have been accurate, but it does not need to happen. Get in some good reading if there is more free time. Help at VBS or at a camp. There is no need for a slump.

Bible Conference is a Blessing
It was a memorable weekend. The Sixth Annual Glimpses of Grace Conference, held in Pearl, Mississippi, the weekend of June 1-2, provided Bible teaching and fellowship in large doses.
Speakers were Ken Sheppard and Dick Hill. Sheppard spoke on “Why Do We Need to Distinguish Between Justification and Sanctification?” and “The Balancing Act of Life.” Hill presented teaching about God’s dealing with the Jewish people in “But From There.” His second message also was about end-time events and was titled, “The Great Rescue.”
Those in attendance participated in small group discussions about the material they had heard presented by the speakers. Conference music was led by Charlie Murphey. Saturday’s program included the dedication of Hill’s new book, A Glimpse of the Coming King.
Next year’s conference is again scheduled at the Hilton Garden Inn and is slated for May 31-June 1, 2019.
